Craving: Mothers Day Gift Guide (For the Chef)

Wednesday the guide was for the traveler, yesterday it was the gardener, but today's guide is for the mom who always has hors d'oeuvres set out when you visit, mails you clippings of her favorite chicken recipes, and gifted you your very first Le Creuset.

Mother's Day is just around the corner so I thought I'd put together a few gift guides based around three different paintings I've created. Up first is a guide for the woman who loves exploring, never says no to a trip, and knows her frequent flier number by heart.

1. A watercolor featuring one of her favorite places

2. Block Shop makes some of the most amazing scarves. Perfect for dressing up an outfit as well as keeping warm on a chilly flight.

3. Maybe it's just me, but every time I fly my skin gets so dry. This hand cream not only smells great, but is small enough to stash in her carry on.

4. Sometimes you only have a weekend to get away. This book is filled with ideas on where to go, things to see, and places to eat. Bonus, it's separated by region so it's really easy to find a getaway close by.

5. Between the fees and the lines, checking bags is a pain. Save your mom the hassle with a beautiful carry on bag.

6. Turn her Instagrams into fun magnets that will remind her of her travels every time she grabs the milk.

Studio Sneak Peek: guest gifts

Amy and Craig wanted to give their guests a gift that was really personal and meaningful- something that would remind them of the wedding, but wouldn't just be tossed away like a cheap plastic frame with their wedding date imprinted on it. Because they were having a smaller wedding, I suggested a painting for each couple/guest. Using the same garden rose design I painted on their invitations, I created a 12 piece collection of paintings- each titled, dated, and signed with the edition number- for Amy and Craig to frame and give to their guests. Apparently, it was hit!

(Side note here, if you're looking to give small favors that you can buy in larger quantities, I always advise something edible or useful. No one turns down chocolate or matches, but most everyone will leave behind the one wine glass etched with your new monogram. That is, unless it's their monogram too, in which you'll see those people collecting a set of 6 from the ones everyone else left behind.)

look what showed up in the mail this weekend! The photos online didn't do these beauties justice- they are so beautiful in person! I've already rocked 3 of the 5 and love the edginess they bring to an outfit. Thanks again to both the BSP and Candace!

Something else that showed up via my electronic postman today was this super cute bag. I'm a HUGE picnic person (J. planned one for our first date and recreated it when he proposed so I have a soft spot for them) so this bag is right up my alley. And even though the price tag is not "right up my alley," it did give me a great idea, so stay tuned for my take on this one. It'll fit right in with a project I'm working on!
