Courtney Khail | contemporary artist

Hi, I'm Courtney.

I'm a Southern contemporary artist currently living in Atlanta, Georgia with my husband and our rescue mutt. Here you'll find a peek into what inspires me, new pieces I'm working on, and a whole lot of random thoughts.

Remember that black and white diptych I was experimenting with a little while back? Here it is finished.

Originally I was a little worried about how different this would look than my other work, but ultimately decided just to take a step back, switch gears, and try and go with the flow. I mean, really, what was the worst that could happen? It would look terrible and I’d toss it? It’s not as though this was a life and death decision 😂

And now that it’s all said and done, I had a blast making it. And the more I look at it, the more I see that it’s not that far of a departure from my other work. Sure it’s lacking color, but my style is still right there. (Which for someone who took a minute to find and feel confident in her style, is really an accomplishment in itself.) “Somewhere In The Grey” No. 1 and No. 2, original ink on paper, 11”x15”, $175 each

It’s storming cats and dogs here in Atlanta, but thanks to the warm weather everything is slowly starting to bloom. I’m especially fond of these blooms that @kailinart captured a little while back. My grandmother (Meme) had one of these trees in her backyard and I remember us lazily rocking back and forth on her swing, eating cinnamon rolls, and talking as the petals fell down around us. Now every time I see these, I’m reminded of those spring days spent with her.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Hope you’re feeling (and sharing) the love today.

This painting is one of the 20 or so that will be released next month! Of course, if you want to claim it before then just shoot me an email and I’ll make that happen. “Awaken”, watercolor and ink original painting, 9”x 12” $200 (unframed)

I don't think I'd have the patience

December 09, 2009 in Cool Things, Paper Goodness, Weddings

but if I did? I'd make these for a wedding.

these save the dates via veiled vows

Getting mail (that isn't a bill) is already exciting enough, but mail that is actually a mini package? awesome.

I promise to bake for anyone who'd like to send me a christmas card like this.
